Years 9 and 10 provide a breadth of subjects which allow students to explore their interests and undertake a wide curriculum experience. Upon reaching the first year of NCEA, students are still encouraged to keep a broad subject base, before specialising further in their senior years.
The Junior School subjects are divided into core and option subjects. Core subjects are compulsory. English, Science and Mathematics are compulsory at Year 11, only English is compulsory in Year 12, with no compulsory subjects in Year 13.
Alongside traditional academic and vocational pursuits, students are provided with a broad range of co-curricular activities which encourage development in sporting and cultural fields. This recognises their importance in a person’s long term development. Health education and careers advice are also available to all students. For accelerant learners, outreach courses from Canterbury University, Lincoln University and the University of Otago are available to our Year 13 students.
Subject selection interviews and parent teacher meetings ensure that we are working together to ensure that the relevant curriculum choices are made for every child to reach their full potential.
When planning a course of study it is advisable to seek guidance from group teachers, whānau leaders and careers staff. Contact the school and arrange a meeting to assist you in your decision making process.
